Delhi Sustainable Development Summit January 31- February 2, 2013

TERI’s Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), organized annually since 2001, is an international platform for exchange of knowledge on all nuances of sustainable development. Over the past twelve years, it has emerged as one of the most leading forums on issues of global sustainability.
The Summit witnesses the attendance of various heads of State and Governments, thought leaders, policy makers and the crème de la crème of industry and academia who come together to deliberate on myriad issues. Until date, a total of 33 Heads of State and ministers from over 43 countries have registered their presence at the Summit.

Global resources of various kinds are becoming scarce even as the demand for them is increasing rapidly as a result of population growth and significant increases in income. Growing awareness on implementing measures for mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and preventing pollution from a range of human activities is leading to efforts towards development and growth which is green and resource efficient. To ensure adequate attention to this issue the 2013 Delhi Sustainable Development Summit will focus on the theme ‘The Global Challenge of Resource Efficient Growth and Development’. It is expected that the articulation of issues related with this subject will set in motion a trend globally for resource efficient and low carbon development.

With a vision to create a synergy for the corporate sector as a whole to move towards sustainability, TERI-BCSD (Business Council for Sustainable Development) was set up by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 2001. The Indian partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Geneva, the Council has now evolved into a strong industry body with membership of more than 100 companies from diverse sectors, including PSUs, MNCs, and private companies from across India. TERI-BCSD is a guide to the Indian corporate diaspora encouraging businesses to develop a vision of a sustainable company, translate that vision into a management action plan, and turn sustainability into a competitive advantage. The Council member company representatives identify, conceptualize, and implement projects in partnership with researchers at TERI, where TERI provides research and implementation support to the business council and acts as the permanent technical resource.
